Service Description

BellSouth 8XX 10-Digit Screening service provides carrier identification and routing of 8XX dialed calls, based on the 10 digits dialed, i.e. 8XX-NXX-XXX.  Recently, BellSouth upgraded its transmission links and its database scope, to be able to provide a national 8XX database which permits realtime updates, 24x7.

BellSouth 8XX 10-Digit Screening service performs a database lookup to determine the appropriate carrier routing for 8XX calls. When an 8XX call is received, a query is launched over the BellSouth SS7 network to the 8XX Database. The query returns the carrier identification code (CIC) of the carrier that owns the dialed number to the switch, which routes the call according to the AIN database.

BellSouth 8XX 10-Digit Screening service is provided as a service to both Interexchange Carriers who "own" 8XX numbers and to end-user carriers (Wireless Service Providers, CLECs, and Independent Companies) who want to provide their end-users access to toll free dialing. For Interexchange Carriers, BellSouth 8XX 10-Digit Screening service provides 8XX access from BellSouth end-users to 8XX numbers "owned" by the carrier. BellSouth 8XX 10-Digit Screening service provides carriers with end users access to an 8XX database for the resolution of 8XX dialed numbers. The end-user carrier can then work out billing with the carrier who "owns" the number.

BellSouth's 8XX 10-Digit Screening service is built upon BellSouth's highly reliable SS7 network to provide the highest level of service. CLECs, Wireless Service Providers, and Independent Companies can save capital and resources by using the proven BellSouth product to provide 8XX access to their customers.

Service Design

BellSouth 8XX 10-Digit Screening service is designed with efficiency and reliability in mind. Access to the database is provided via the Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN) to ensure the fastest, most reliable responses. The database is frequently updated to guarantee that each number dialed is routed to the right carrier. Here's how the service works for you:

CLECs, Wireless Service Providers, Independent Companies
When one of your customers dials an 8XX number, you momentarily hold the call at your switch and launch a query via the SS7 Network to the BellSouth 8XX Database. The 8XX Database returns the query results (in the form of a CIC) to your switch. Your switch receives the CIC code back within a fraction of a second and routes the call to the appropriate carrier based on the AIN database. You pay for the query and bill the called carrier for completing the call to them.

Interexchange Carriers
When a BellSouth end user places a call to an 8XX number you "own", the call is held at the central office while an SS7-based query is launched. The BellSouth 8XX Database returns your CIC to the switch, which routes the call to you based upon the AIN database. With BellSouth 8XX 10-Digit Screening service your customers get access to over 20 million end users in the Southeast.
