Service Description

BellSouth SPA DS1 Diverse Service is a fundamentally new product developed by BellSouth for all Interexchange Carriers and Competitive Local Exchange Carriers to provide enhanced transport for customers purchasing DS1 services that need enhanced circuit survivability without the added costs of nodal (Central Office) diversity. BellSouth SPA DS1 Diverse Service is a premium DS1 (1.544 Mb/s) service distinguished form basic DS1 services by its high degree of reliability and survivability. The infrastructure to support BellSouth SPA DS1 Diverse Service is fiber based and will utilize a structurally diverse architecture to provide local loop and interoffice facility protection. Nodal, i.e. Central Office, protection is not an inherent attribute of the service.

In fact, we are so confident in the reliability of our DS1 Diverse Service, that we back it up with a Service Assurance Warranty. If your SPA DS1 Diverse Service is out for 60 seconds or more without switching to an alternate facility, you're in the money by simply providing us notification.

Service Design

Your BellSouth SPA DS1 Diverse Service is comprised of local loop and interoffice channels. It is provided across a structurally diverse fiber route capable of transmitting 1.544 Mbps (equivalent to 24 DS0 level circuits). If a segment of your DS1 Diverse Service experiences a cut or other outage, automatic switching capabilities spring into action. Within seconds your traffic is routed to an alternative facility that is structurally diverse from the facility experiencing the outage and your service will continue as before.

Availability & Pricing

BellSouth DS1 Diverse Service is available where facilities are currently available. Your account team will help you determine availability on a site by site basis. SPA DS1 Diverse Service is tariffed under BellSouth's FCC #1 Tariff (Section 7). There you'll find specific rate information on both the Local Channel and Interoffice Channel elements. The Local Channel elements are flat rated, while the Interoffice Channel consists of both fixed and distance sensitive variable elements. BellSouth SPA DS1 Diverse Service is available under a Term Payment Plan (TPP). With TPP, you can commit to a term agreement and receive discounted monthly rates in exchange. And once you sign up, you lock in those discounted rates for the term of the agreement, regardless of future BellSouth initiated rate increases. Three discounted term plans are available TPP:

Plan A - 12 to 36 Months
Plan B - 37 to 60 Months
Plan C - 61 to 96 Months

Ordering & Implementation

BellSouth SPA DS1 Diverse Service is available where facilities are currently in place. After verifying availability, your dedicated account team will walk you through the ordering process. To ensure you receive the most reliable services in a timely fashion, a Service Installation Guarantee and Service Assurance Warranty apply to BellSouth's SPA DS1 Diverse Service. Please see the appropriate sections of the tariff for full details. BellSouth provides its Service Installation Guarantee on SPA DS1 Diverse Service to ensure that your service is installed by the agreed upon date. If BellSouth fails to meet an agreed upon installation date, you'll save on the associated non-recurring installation charges. Once your BellSouth SPA DS1 Diverse Service is installed, our Service Assurance Warranty (SAW) assures that you'll receive the highest level of service. As outlined in the FCC #1 Tariff, the SAW for DS1 Diverse Service provides a refund of all of your monthly recurring associated with the circuit that suffers a service interruption of 1 minute or more, provided you let us know the service is out.
