Service Description

BellSouth SPA DS1 Service is a 1.544 Mbps point to point facility for the transmission of digital data in 64 Kbps or 1.544 Mbps channels.

BellSouth SPA DS1 service is a faster, higher-volume network service designed to deliver voice, data and video communications seamlessly over a single connection. With DS1 service you can aggregate 64 Kbps voice or data channels into a single facility, providing significant cost savings over individual DS0 level services.

BellSouth SPA DS1 service is a workhorse digital facility designed to provide an extra level of speed and efficiency over DS0 services. With DS1 service you can combine voice, data, and video DS0 channels together in one facility -- and you have the flexibility to change the "mix" as you need to.

Benefits

BellSouth SPA DS1 service makes it easy to realize cost savings over individual DS0 level circuits. By aggregating multiple DS0 circuits onto a single DS1 facility you can reduce your transport costs, often with as few as eight to thirteen DS0 circuits. And by combining multiple types of traffic, data traffic to the Internet, voice traffic, video, etc. you can reach the price point with no effort at all.

Because of the increased bandwidth, BellSouth SPA DS1 provides additional flexibility and efficiency over DS0.

As you aggregate your individual exchange lines and private lines you'll see efficiency gains. Not only will you save money with DS1, you'll likely end up with excess capacity -- providing important room to grow.

And BellSouth SPA DS1 service can easily interconnect with BellSouth SPA DS0, BellSouth SPA Point to Point Network, BellSouth Dedicated Ring and FlexServ so you can grow your network in the way that's best for you. Service Design

BellSouth SPA DS1 is provided as a point to point service for the direct, dedicated interconnection of two facilities. BellSouth SPA DS1 is composed of three rate elements, local channels, interoffice channels and channelization.

It is available as a single 1.544 Mbps facility (non-channelized) or as 24 individual 64 Kbps facilities (channelized).

Typical configuration include the interconnection of two office buildings in the same LATA (only local channels required) or the interconnection of a carrier Point-of-Presence (POP) with a BellSouth Access Tandem (local channel (and possibly interoffice channel(s)) required). Availability and Pricing BellSouth SPA DS1 service is available throughout the nine state BellSouth region.

The local channel element and channelization pricing are flat rated. The interoffice channel has both flat rate and mileage sensitive pricing. For detailed rate information see Section 7 of BellSouth's FCC #1 Tariff or Section 7 of the applicable State Access Tariff.

BellSouth SPA DS1 is available under reduced rates according to the Area Commitment Plan, CSPP (Channel Services Payment Plan) and Federal Government Transport Plan (separately).

With the Area Commitment Plan, carriers committing to a term and volume agreement can realize reduced rates on DS1 elements. When you commit to maintain service for between 24 and 72 months, you'll receive reduces rates. With CSPP, customer commits: Individual circuits to a term plan with 24-96 months contract terms available. Better yet, the reduced rates are locked in for the term of the agreement, protecting you from any BellSouth-initiated rate increases.

The Federal Government Transport Plan offers reduced rates for DS1 services ordered on behalf of the Federal Government.

Ordering and Implementation

BellSouth SPA DS1 service is ordered through the Interexchange Carrier Service Center or Local Carrier Service Center as appropriate. Approved ordering forms are available and should be used to submit requests (ASRs or LSRs).

BellSouth provides its Service Installation Guarantee on BellSouth SPA DS1 to ensure that your DS1 service is installed by the agreed upon date. If BellSouth fails to meet an agreed upon installation date, you'll save on the associated non-recurring installation charges.

Once your BellSouth SPA DS1 service is installed, BellSouth's Service Assurance Warranty (SAW) assures you you'll receive the highest level of service. As outlined in the BellSouth FCC #1 Tariff, Section 2, SAW provides you with a refund of all or part of your monthly recurring charges when your service doesn't perform to pre-defined specs.
