Service Description

BellSouth Managed Shared Network Service (MSNS) is a Special Access high-capacity transport service in which BellSouth takes over the customer's existing interoffice access network and assumes responsibility for it.

When you subscribe to MSNS, BellSouth manages your interoffice network, freeing you from the burden of maintaining an optimal configuration. You request the services you need and BellSouth handles designing the architecture to make it happen.

MSNS is designed for Special Access customers who have at least 28 equivalent DS1s being aggregated at one customer location (usually a Point of Presence). For customers with enough traffic, BellSouth provides all the savings that typically result from network optimization while doing all the work for you.

Benefits

BellSouth Managed Shared Network Service (MSNS) is a win-win proposition for carriers who are aggregating sufficient traffic at a single network point. With MSNS your savings begin as soon as your contract with BellSouth is signed and continue through the life of the contract.

Network optimization programs typically have meant investing in the resources to analyze the network and determine points for multiplexing. Then orders had to be issued, which meant non-recurring charges and coordination efforts. Only later would savings be realized.

With BellSouth Managed Shared Network Service, real savings begin immediately. There are no costs associated with managing the interoffice network. No non-recurring charges for initial installation or incremental service. And the savings begin immediately. BellSouth Managed Shared Network Service is an optimization plan that means real savings.

Service Design

Traditionally, getting the most out of your network has meant an up front investment in optimization. With a growing network, additional personnel and service order activity were required to keep a balanced, efficient network in place. The task of deciding when and where to use multiplexing meant facing immediate costs in exchange for future savings.

Enter BellSouth Managed Shared Network Service, or MSNS.

When you sign up for MSNS, BellSouth takes over the management of your interoffice network for you. MSNS is a LATA-wide service provided by BellSouth to ease the pain of network optimization programs — you get the benefits of reduced costs typical of optimization programs without all the costs and hassles that usually come with the savings. And best of all, the savings start immediately.

With BellSouth MSNS, you specify the locations where most of your traffic terminates (called aggregation locations). Then, when you order service to an aggregation location, BellSouth handles the design, engineering, and routing of your service from the serving wire center to the aggregation location. And virtually any access transport applications can be transported over this BellSouth-managed network including voice, analog data, digital data and video.

The end result is that you pay reduced rates for your interoffice transport and BellSouth handles the network management tasks for you.

Availability & Pricing

BellSouth Managed Shared Network Service (MSNS) is available for interstate special access throughout the BellSouth region under contract agreements of 1 or 5 years.

The only eligibility requirements are that the interface at the selected Aggregation Location be at a DS3 level and that at least 28 equivalent interstate special access DS1's terminate there.

DS1 and DS3 services ordered under an MSNS agreement are subject to Zone Density pricing. Wherever BellSouth has high volume advantages, lower costs are passed on to you.

Ordering & Implementation

BellSouth Managed Shared Network Service (MSNS) is available under contracts for 1 or 5 years. To order MSNS, a Managed Shared Network Agreement should be established through your dedicated Account Team. Once the agreement is in place, Access Service Requests (ASRs) for service at the Aggregation Location will be processed through the ICSC.

The only eligibility requirements are that the interface at the selected Aggregation Location be at a DS3 level and that at least 28 equivalent DS1's terminate there.

When service is established all service at the Aggregation Location must convert to MSNS except for BellSouth SPA DS1 or DS3 Shared Ring services. Additionally, you commit to maintain a minimum of 28 equivalent DS1's or a 90% commitment level (whichever is greater) as Managed Shared Network Service at the Aggregation Location for the life of the contract.

For complete information on MSNS see Section 7 of the FCC tariff.
