Service Description

BellSouth SPA Point to Point Network is a DS3 and above level service that provides the highest capacity Point to Point connection. Point to Point Network is a backbone data transport service for data traffic between two locations. The service is available in system capacities from DS3 to OC192 to meet your traffic aggregation needs over high volume pathways. It's ideal for interconnecting your Points-of-Presence and connecting to the BellSouth network at access tandems and end offices.

BellSouth SPA Point to Point Network is provisioned over asynchronous and SONET fiber facilities to provide the fastest, most reliable transmission medium. BellSouth's network is continually upgraded to provide you the most reliable service for your high volume traffic needs.

Benefits

As a digital transport service, BellSouth SPA Point to Point Network provides the greatest capacity for interconnecting two locations. It's extremely flexible and can be used to transport traffic of all types — voice, data, video, even ATM.

You'll also appreciate the flexibility that comes from four asynchronous and three synchronous sizes. Your Point to Point Network can grow with your growing needs. You can grow your DS1s into a Point to Point Network Service (with spare capacity to boot) and continue to grow up through OC192.

Point to Point Network also has built-in protection switching, so your service can be automatically rerouted in the event of a primary facility failure.

And your network will be compatible with your other BellSouth Special Access services including BellSouth SPA DS1, BellSouth Dedicated Ring Service, and even BellSouth SPA VG. Using BellSouth Customer Reconfiguration service you can even provide monitoring and make changes to your BellSouth SPA Point to Point Network.

Service Design

BellSouth SPA Point to Point Network is composed of three elements:

  1. Local channel
  2. Interoffice channel
  3. Channel interfaces at the customer premise and at the central office

Using local channels and interoffice channels you can interconnect facilities in the same wire center or across the LATA. Typical configurations may be the interconnection of your Point-of-Presence (POP) with an access tandem (composed of a local channel and 1 or more interoffice channels) or the interconnection of two Points-of-Presence (POPs) for redundancy purposes (composed of two local channels and 1 or more interoffice channels). With Point to Point Network, you can combine local channels and interoffice channels to serve any application.

Point to Point Network comes in four asynchronous system capacity sizes (1 DS3, 3 DS3s, 12 DS3s and 24 DS3s) and four synchronous sizes (OC3, OC12, OC48, and OC192). Channel Interfaces for the aggregation of traffic are offered as DS1, DS3, STS1 OC3, OC12 and OC48.
