BellSouth MegaLink Service provides a 1.544 Mb non-channelized path for the transmission of digital data between two points. MegaLink Service is the transport of choice for connecting cell sites to a mobile switching system.

Using the BellSouth network, MegaLink Service offers excellent reliability and extensive coverage - at very competitive prices.

BellSouth MegaLink Service is designed for the interconnection of cell sites to the mobile switching network. A series of point-to-point MegaLinks ensures a network that is both compact and scaleable, enabling growth without the need for re-balancing loads on ringed and hybrid networks.

BellSouth MegaLink Service is fully compatible with other BellSouth services: FlexServ, LightGate, and SMARTRing.

Using FlexServ in tandem with BellSouth MegaLink Service allows carriers to monitor circuits and reconfigure traffic as needed.

Service Design

BellSouth MegaLink Service is composed of two types of channels: interoffice channels and local channels. A typical configuration includes a combination of the two. For example:

Local Channel — Customer cell site to the nearest BellSouth central office
Interoffice Channel — BellSouth central office to another BellSouth central office
Local Channel — BellSouth central office to Mobile Switching Center

 

Other configurations may include:
2 local channels, no interoffice channels (for connecting two facilities in the same wire center)
1 local channel, 1 interoffice channel (for connecting a mobile switching center to the BellSouth Access Tandem)
